Coronavirus (COVID-19) 5/14/2020
The past two months have certainly been an interesting time for all of us. The coronavirus has taken a toll on the world and continues to keep us challenged daily. Atrium Centers Inc. is fully committed to maintaining all services critical to the welfare of our residents, their families and visitors. Our employees are working round the clock to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. We are receiving regular updates and advisories from public health agencies, and are in routine contact with them. Atrium Centers’ employees have been diligent in implementing and following the new guidelines despite the information and conditions changing by the minute.
We have learned a lot over the past few months since the onset of the coronavirus. We have learned that we have strong resources in our community that are willing to help, that we have wonderful families and friends that understand our new requirements and are complying with our requests, and that there are many creative individuals in our circles. We have had communities that arranged for parades with horses outside their windows, hallway bingo, numerous dance parties, zoom visits with families, tic-tac-toe window games, and we even had some of our high school Nursing Assistants stage a prom at one of our facilities. It is amazing to see the creativity that has come out of this.
But most of all, our employees have proven once again how dedicated, hard-working, and compassionate they are. Our team members are working extensive hours and learning new procedures daily in order to keep our residents and each other safe. I am very proud of how resilient and committed they have been to our communities during this challenging time. When you see them, please join me in sharing your appreciation for their hard work (from a distance of course).
While I am aware that many states are starting to lessen restrictions and open up services, I do not see that our current protocols in our communities will be changing anytime soon. The need to routinely monitor all of our patients and staff, and restrict visitors, will continue at this time. We understand how difficult this is, but it is necessary in order to keep our residents and employees as safe as possible.
Based on the CDC and CMS guidelines, and for the safety of our residents and staff, we are continuing to restrict all visitors and non-essential health care personnel.
Visitors will be allowed for certain compassionate care situations, such as an end-of-life situation. In those cases, visitors will be limited to a specific room only. For individuals that enter in compassionate situations (e.g., end-of-life care), you must contact the facility Administrator to make an appointment. You will be required to perform hand hygiene and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as facemasks. Decisions about visitation during an end of life situation will be made on a case-by-case basis, and will include careful screening of all visitor (including clergy, bereavement counselors, etc.) for fever or respiratory symptoms. If you have symptoms of a respiratory infection (fever, cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat) you will not be permitted to enter the facility at any time (even in end-of-life situations). If your visit is permitted, you must wear a facemask while in the building and restrict your visit to the resident’s room or other location designated by the facility. Please frequently perform hand hygiene and refrain from any physical contact with the residents and others while in the facility. For example, practice social distancing (no hand-shaking or hugging) and remain six feet apart.
Visitors and any individuals who enter the facility (e.g., hospice staff), need to monitor themselves for signs and symptoms of respiratory infection for at least 14 days after exiting the facility. If symptoms occur, please self-isolate at home, contact your healthcare provider, and immediately notify the facility of the date you were in the facility, the individuals you were in contact with, and the locations within the facility you visited.
We appreciate your patience while we work hard to maintain the well- being of our residents and employees. We encourage you to keep in touch with your loved one via phone, Skype, or Face Time. Please contact the Administrator of the community and they will be happy to assist you. We sincerely hope that these restrictions will end soon and we will keep you updated as circumstances change.
We want to ensure that we continue to communicate to our families and friends on a regular basis, so each of our communities has set up conference calls, multiple times per week, for families to join and get updates on community happenings related to the coronavirus. If you are not yet aware of these calls, please contact your community Administrator for the times and call in number.

Our experienced, compassionate nursing staff and interdisciplinary team provide around-the-clock care including intravenous therapy, advanced wound care, therapeutic diets, pain management, palliative care, hospice care, total parenteral nutrition, dialysis care and respiratory therapy. Our “never say never” rehabilitation department provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to residents recovering from prosthetic replacements, knee and hip surgeries, strokes and clinically complex conditions. Each day our staff members help our residents to feel better and enjoy life again.

At South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation, we have a positive, family-oriented, caring atmosphere, as evidenced by the affectionate smiles and convivial conversations between our staff and residents. From our old fashioned ice cream parlor to our non-denominational chapel, our building serves both as the residents’ home as well as a gathering place for family and friends.
Our Community Services
Located less than a block from the local hospital and close to the beautiful beaches of South Haven, our bright interior rooms and hallways overlook a natural setting teeming with wildlife. Dually licensed to care for 70 residents, we offer 38 private rooms and 16 companion rooms. In addition, we boast a diverse selection of activities and events which appeal to our residents’ interests and hobbies. What we are truly known for though, is that through daily attentive interactions, our residents know our staff members sincerely care for them and about them.
