Dietary Services

Good nutrition is vital in maintaining one's health and well-being. Both the meal and the atmosphere in which the meal is served have an impact on our residents’ quality of life.

Residents look forward to the wholesome meals and interaction with other residents and staff during their dining experience. Our complete menu is supervised by a registered dietitian whose main concern is to provide nutritious, appetizing dishes. Personal preferences and special diets are catered to as well.

A successful dietary program is very important for two reasons:

  • Proper nutrition is a key factor in the overall health of our residents, particularly in the areas of skin condition, cognition (mental alertness), and weight maintenance and management.
  • A high quality dining experience leads to greater customer satisfaction, which is what we strive for every day.

Dining as You Age

Changes that occur as you age can also affect your dining experience. For example, your sense of taste can change and how you respond to the texture and consistency of food may change, too. Our menus are created by registered dietitians who understand how aging affects the dining experience.

Recipe for Success

Our dietary program has three key ingredients:

  1. Appealing Menus — We offer a selection of foods each day, with lots of variety throughout the month.
  2. Menu Review Meetings — As part of our Resident Council Meeting, our Food Services Director seeks feedback on our menus. Our Food Services Director also meets with each resident individually to determine his or her personal food preferences.
  3. Menu Flexibility — We use the input we get at menu review meetings to adapt our menus to reflect the general food preferences of our residents. If there’s a dish that most people don’t seem to enjoy, we remove it from our repertoire.

At our community, we are committed to providing an enjoyable dining experience—and enhanced quality of life—for all of our residents.

Not only does our food need to be appealing, but it also needs to be appropriate for each resident’s prescribed diet. How do we determine a resident’s clinical dietary requirements? Our dietitians perform a four-part dietary assessment, resulting in a care plan that identifies:

  • Medical condition (strengths, weaknesses, feeding abilities)
  • Nutrient requirements (calories, protein, vitamins, minerals)
  • Personal food preferences
  • How to meet all of the above (unrestricted diet, special diet, liquid diet)

Our Dietary Staff

There’s a whole team of employees in our building who plan and prepare meals and snacks for you:

  • A registered dietitian, who performs your nutritional assessment and develops an individual care plan for you
  • The food services director, who is in charge of resident food—and the kitchen in which it’s prepared
  • Cooks, who prepare all meals and snacks
  • Dietary assistants, who perform a variety of meal-preparation support tasks, from assembling trays and pouring beverages to washing dishes
