Riverside DON 30 years anniversary
Back in 1987 a young woman name Lavonne started her career as a nursing assistant at the former West Michigan Care Center in Allendale, Michigan. On August 17th, 2017, Lavonne Singer, Director of Nursing at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Grand Haven celebrated her 30th anniversary surrounded by staff, residents, and her husband Joe. Over the years the health care industry has changed dramatically but the one constant Lavonne brings to work each day is her personal attention to everyone she meets. According to Tammy Garza, Administrator, “Lavonne is always interacting with someone all day long – whether it is a family with a concern about their aging relative, a staff member who is trying to improve their skills, or a resident who just needs a hug and reassurance.” Lavonne worked in Allendale for her first 19 years and in 2006 transferred to Riverside as Director of Nursing. Along the way she completed nursing school as both a Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse at Grand Rapids Community College while also raising 3 children. Over the years Riverside has accomplished many milestones including a deficiency free health inspection survey in 2014, the Silver Quality Award the American Health Care Association and several major remodeling projects. Lavonne says of her30th anniversary accomplishment, “When you love what you do it brings great pride and joy to be part of our resident’s lives”. Lavonne truly has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of residents and staff members in her 30 years of service. Riverside Nursing & Rehabilitation Community is located at 415 Friant Street, Grand Haven.
